Microsoft Surface tablet hit by glitch update, some say owners


RT Microsoft Surface tablet may have caught a virus from a firmware update recently.

Since January 10, users have rang several surface in the community forums to complain that Microsoft Windows Update not responding.

The original message in the thread sums up the problem in a nutshell:

     After applying the patches on Tuesday my RT surface will not connect to Windows Update. It remains stuck on the progress circle after selecting Windows Update from PC Settings and circle eventually stops. I can confirm this behavior on 2 of our 3 surfaces but I have not checked the third day.

Tuesday patches referenced in the message include a firmware update that Microsoft deployed to Windows RT January 8 in the Patch Tuesday this month.

Several commenters in the thread that restarting the tablet solves the problem temporarily, allowing them again to connect to Windows Update. But the question never seems to go away for good. A couple of people even refreshed their shelves to see the forum moderator return.The glitch, probably representing Microsoft support recommends resetting the tablet, then try Windows Update again. Yesterday, the moderator said that Microsoft has not been able to reproduce the problem and is looking for more information to solve it....
