Reliable, but held back by outdated Android OS

At only $ 100, the Samsung Galaxy 4G Admire has a number of things for her. It provides a consistent experience 4G LTE, it has a nice compact design and is ideal for customers who want a simple, no contract smartphone.

Unfortunately, with the enormous control device is that it runs on Android 2.3 operating system. In the smartphone world, it's old age (after all, there have been two updates since). MetroPCS and that carries a lot of other devices with Android 4.0 for about the same price, if not cheaper, does not contribute to the 4G Admire look better.

Design
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy 4G Admire is reminiscent of the second generation iPod. Coming only in white, it has a thickness of 0.47 inch profile, but it is extremely compact. It is easy to handle with one hand, and it has a dense structure that weighs 4.34 ounces It measures 4.52 inches tall and 2.46 inches wide.

On the left is a thin volume rocker, and up there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The right edge houses the standby button / power, and the bottom is the micro-USB port for charging. The 3.2 megapixel camera and LED flash are on the back, with two small slits on the top-right speaker. Use a dash at the very top of the back plate, you can lift the lid and access the microSD card slot (accepts cards up to 32 GB) and the battery. Although the device looks simple, I found the back plate to be attractive. It has a subtle wood grain which adds a feeling of premium for a product otherwise cheap-feeling.

The three, 65-inch HVGA TFT touch screen is made of Corning Gorilla glass. As it is a medium entry level handset, it does not crisp screens: it has a resolution of 320x480 pixels and can display up to 262,000 colors. Color gradients, such as those that appear on the default wallpaper, striped and mottled look. However, the touch screen is sensitive and does not require much pressing hard for this record keys.

Above the screen is a speaker in the ear, a front facing VGA camera, and sensors. Below there are four buttons that light up when using: menu, back at home, and features search.Software
One of the biggest flaws of the phone, is that despite leaving a little more than a month, it comes with the Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread severely dated. Later versions of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean have been released, so if you're looking for a unit upgrade, this is not it.

However, the 4G Enjoy a handful of applications you expect Google, such as Gmail, Latitude, Maps with Navigation, Places, access to Google Play books, music, store, search, Chat, and finally YouTube.

Applications for basic management tasks it has a calculator, a calendar, a clock with alarm functions, from e-mail client and browser, notepad, audio and video players, a list of things to do, and as a voice dialer, logger and search.MetroPCS included some of its own applications, including 4G mobile hotspot application, Studio M, which stores multimedia files such as ringtones, Metro store own application; Metro block, which allows you to block calls and texts undesirable persons; Metro411, which locates and research for businesses and restaurants nearby MetroPCS Easy Wi-Fi, the carrier native browser, a media and entertainment app called supplements such as, a handset locator called Total Protection and MyMetro, which allows you to check your account balance and level.

Other goodies are AllShare, which allows you to play media across multiple devices, Yahoo Answers always intelligent and reliable Desk Cradle that allows you to run a static home page that shows only a few applications, weather and time , Yahoo Movies and a mobile media immediately called Pocket Express, then Quickoffice, Rhapsody music streaming service and another application called notetaking Write & Go

Camera and video
The 3.2 megapixel camera takes surprisingly many picture options, such as touch, auto and macro focus, an LED flash, a measure of exposure, six shooting modes, a whopping 14 scene modes, a timer, six photo sizes (from 640x480 to 2,048 x1, 536), five white balance, four color effects, three metering options (matrix, center-weighted and spot), three image qualities, counters to adjust the contrast, saturation and sharpness guidelines composition, and geotagging.

The camera has the same flash, exposure, self timer, line composition, white balance, color effects, quality and setting options of the counter. But you can also mute and pull in four sizes (from 176x144 to 720x480), and there are two shooting modes (normal and MMS).

The front camera on the road has fewer options. The only features that are used are the measure of exposure, choice of image quality and geolocation. In recording mode, you just go to the extent of the exposure, the video quality and audio mute.

For a low megapixel camera, the photo quality is respectable. Clearly, the outdoor scenes with uniform lighting, close-up images were generally high. Even if objects outside point of central focus was a little fuzzy, they have not been rendered unrecognizable. In addition to colors, like white, were accurate.

Of course, the photos taken inside dimmer lighting are not as clear. Looked dull colors, images look blurred, as if painted on a broad brush stroke, the white lights were washed away, and the dark colors are difficult to distinguish. However, in general, the images did not look too pixelated and were always easy to discern....
