Oracle to pay $ 1.7 billion for the network service provider Acme Packet

Oracle today announced that it has agreed to purchase Acme Packet to $ 1.7 billion.

Acme Packet sells voice and data products and services used on IP networks. His clients range from telecommunications providers and large enterprises comprise 90 of the best companies in the world communication 100, according to Oracle.

Adding Acme is intended to help Oracle customers ramp up the transition to all-IP networks. In collaboration with Acme, Oracle will be able to offer a range of products and technologies that can help large enterprises as they deploy their IP networks.

All-IP networks are increasingly implemented by companies to manage voice traffic with data.

"The addition of Acme Packet Oracle portfolio of leading communications allow service providers and enterprises to deliver innovative solutions that will change the way we interact, do business, to provide health care to secure our homes, and much more, "Oracle President Mark Hurd said in a statement.

The acquisition is seen as a victory for Jefferies analyst Ross Oracle MacMillan. In an investor note today, MacMillan said he expects the deal to increase the demand for Sun Hardware Oracle. Add Acme also extend the Oracle portfolio of unified communications products as well as its relationships with major telecommunications providers.

Already approved by the Board of Directors Acme, the transaction is expected to close during the first half of 2013, subject to shareholder approval, regulatory approval, and other factors.
