Apple is working on a low-cost iPhone for emerging markets around the world, says a new report.
The company is working on an iPhone for China and emerging markets will launch in the second half of 2013, Digitimes reports, citing unnamed sources in Apple's supply chain. These sources say that the iPhone will have a big screen, but comes with a revamped design and much cheaper than the current combined company.
That said, some of the Digitimes rumor is not to accumulate all: the low-cost iPhone will have a larger screen than the current iPhone 5 4-inch model, according to sources. Whereas a larger screen would make more sense in a high-end product, it is possible that the sources are simply wrong - a scenario that often plays with anonymous sources Digitimes.
However, this is not the first time we heard about the possibility of Apple launching a new cheaper iPhone. Last week, Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Mawston said he believes Apple could launch a "Mini iPhone at some point during the next three years to deal with hundreds of millions of prepaid users across the world can not afford the iPhone. "However, Mawston argues that the success of the Apple iPhone 5 means no reason to launch a handset cheaper this year. Sources Digitimes' that the device they transport seen in the second half of 2013.
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek agrees with Digitimes sources. He said recently that he believes a low-cost iPhone could launch this summer for $ 200 to $ 250, but Apple has not given the green light to this day because the company is concerned that the margin it would take to sell a low end handset.
We do not know what an iPhone could offer lower cost to consumers. However, sources Digitimes' that Qualcomm dual and quad-core Snapdragon chipsets could find their way into the unit.
