Sony sees higher revenues, lower losses in recovery hopes gain

Although Sony has seen its troubles rise over the past few years, the company achieved a strong fourth quarter, leading some to wonder if the worst is behind her.

During the fourth quarter of 2012 (third quarter fiscal Sony), the company generated $ 22.4 billion in revenue, an increase of 6.9 percent over the same period in 2011 ( PDF). And although the company still lost $ 124 million during the period, which was much better than the $ 1.7 billion it lost in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Improving the performance of Sony came byway of its products and mobile communication companies, which rose from 94.4 percent of revenue each year. Sony Pictures and Financial Services increased its revenues by 30 percent and 21 percent, respectively.Still, it was not all good news. Sony game division saw sales slide 15 percent during the period. Home Entertainment Company and its business declined 18 percent during the period.

Sore game Sony might have something to do with the aging society console, the PlayStation 3. After years on store shelves, console games tend to see their sales start to falter, leaving companies who have no choice but to announce a replacement. Sales of Sony consoles hit 6.8 million units in the fourth quarter, down from 7.4 million for the previous year.

Later this month, Sony should do just that during a special event. This is the new console could help increase the income of the Gaming division when it is expected to launch later this year.

Sony's greater concern for the past two years, and apparently the major challenge for the future is its television division. Shareholders have asked Sony chief Kazuo Hirai to sell the operation of the television, but repeatedly, he said that things can change. However, during the fourth quarter, Sony sold only 4.2 million jobs in the LCD world. During the same period in 2011, sales were 6,000,000 units.

However, on an annual basis, things are going well for Sony. The company released its full-year forecast for the fiscal year 2012, and stated that the revenue would be slightly higher. He also expects to publish a small net profit, unlike the previous year, which saw a massive loss generate.
